STEP 1
Mandatory Requirements

PART 1
MCQ EXAMINATION

Part 1 consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) designed to assess the candidate’s theoretical and clinical knowledge in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Eligibility Criteria for Part 1
  • MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from a recognized institute for Indian candidates.
  • Life membership of AOMSI for Indian candidates.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical/surgical experience post-qualification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
  • Logbook of Clinical Cases Operated as Lead Surgeon:
    • A mandatory logbook documenting all clinical and surgical cases where the candidate has acted as the lead surgeon.
    • The cases should be recorded after completion of the MDS qualification or equivalent.
    • Recommended Minimum Logbook Requirements for IBOMS Certification:
      • Total Minimum Cases as Lead Surgeon: 100
      • Distributed across at least 3 major surgical categories
      • All cases must be post-MDS and independently verified.
    • Verification Required: The logbook must be signed by the Head of the Institute or the Medical Superintendent (MS).
    • This logbook will be reviewed during the application process to verify clinical and surgical experience.
    • Mandatory for all candidates to submit.
  • Candidates must accumulate a minimum of 50 points across the following sections:
    • Section A: Academic & Professional (10 mandatory points out of 65)
    • Section B: Research and Publications (10 mandatory points out of 80)
    • Section C: Teaching and Presentations (10 mandatory points out of 65)
Frequency Twice per year
Progression Candidates who successfully complete Part 1 may proceed to Part 2.
Successful Part 1 candidates proceed to Part 2
STEP 3
PART 2 – CASE PRESENTATION & VIVA EXAMINATION

Part 2 consists of a Case Presentation and Viva Examination designed to assess the candidate’s clinical decision-making, surgical knowledge, case management and professional competence.

Frequency Once per year
Validity The result of Part 1 shall remain valid for three years from the date of completion of Part 1.
Attempts Candidates may appear for Part 2 up to a maximum of three attempts during the three-year validity period of their Part 1 result.
Part 2 Examination – Validity & Attempts

The result of Part 1 shall remain valid for three years from the date of completion of Part 1. During this period, candidates may appear for Part 2 in up to three attempts. These attempts may be taken in any of the examination years within the three-year validity period.
